From the Series // Dreams I Wish I Had a continuation from Water Brother, an ongoing series of waterscapes and landscapes, dedicated to my brother Stuart, who passed at the age of 23 in 2001. We grew up on a river and LIVED in the water, together.
I've learned to rearrange the longing for my departed brother, by celebrating his existence through epic imagery. I now see him in all forms of waters’ change. He is part of the greater cycle, a body gone back to the molecular beginnings we all come from. He is a shape-shifter and these are my visual meditations.
This part of the series explores the fantasy of flight, set in this floating motion, moving forward, above and through time. A semblance of nostalgic desire to share life as growth in beautiful moments. Stuart lives as a character in these spaces and he floats with me.
Each piece is made up of multiple layers and combinations of photographic captures, sculpted together. Intended for immensely large scale, an emphasis on highly detailed aesthetics seduces the viewer into the feeling of flight. Every detailed nuance and gesture of cloud and waters’ surface is a character. They are carefully painted into a choreographed, waterscape dance. The triptych of oceanscapes align when hung strategically as do the diptych of skyscapes. Everything connected, always.
